Efficient shelf label management in Quant

Successful store management depends not only on the efficient use of store space and optimized product display, but also on correct product descriptions and pricing. Shelf labels represent one of the largest marketing and communication areas in the store. Therefore, it is useful to have a system that allows you to use their potential to the maximum.

Printing shelf labels from POS systems

Shelf labels based on fixture measurementsConventional POS systems allow the printing of shelf labels. However, they run into some limitations. First of all, they usually do not have information about the location of individual products in the shop area. The product can be placed on the standard shelf but also at the checkout in areas intended for impulse purchases. The store manager then has no choice but to go through the store and manually count the number of shelf labels.

It may also happen that there are several different sizes of shelf labels within one store depending on their location. Even this information is usually not available in conventional POS systems.

The design of the shelf label tends to be uniform and cannot be changed operationally so that, for example, promotional shelf labels can be printed together with regular shelf labels or personalised shelf labels according to individual stores.

If there is a mass re-pricing at the head office, for example due to the release of a new leaflet with promotional prices, stores often print sets of shelf labels for the whole chain. In an extreme case, after re-pricing 100 products, each store prints 500 shelf labels with 5 different designs. In the end, they end up using perhaps only 50 of them, since half of the overpriced products are not on display at all. This is a big waste in terms of printing costs and staff time.

Shelf label management in Quant

We have therefore developed a shelf label management solution that encompasses the entire process from the actual design of the shelf labels to the automated preparation of the print report based on the exact data of the specific store.

Sophisticated editor

Quant uses a sophisticated editor to create the look and content of shelf labels. It is easy to place pictograms, images, barcodes and QR codes on the shelf label or to create different looks for promotional shelf labels or for individual stores. In addition to the shelf label design, you can also prepare different assemblies according to specific fixture which are then paired with the shelf label type.

Automatic change detection

Checking changes for defined product properties is automatic in Quant. If a relevant change is detected, the shelf label is automatically sent to all stores that have the product in their planograms or watch lists.

Stores access Quant via a web interface on their tablets or mobile phones. They are notified of any changes by email. In addition to printing an automatically generated report of changed shelf labels, stores can also create a print report manually at any time. This is particularly useful in case of damage or loss of the shelf label.

Position of product on shelf labelsLinking shelf labels with planograms

Another indisputable advantage is the linking of shelf labels with planograms. Navigation data such as shelf address, category, shelf number, shelf position or number of facings can also be placed on the shelf label. Thanks to duplex printing support, this data can assist store staff and remain hidden from customers. The ability to download all shelf labels sorted by planogram location is very useful during rebuilds.

In case of big changes, the store does not have to worry about receiving an endless set of shelf labels. Thanks to the integration of shelf label management into Quant, the set is clearly defined and the store gets the correct number of shelf labels, in the correct design and with correct dimensions according to the fixture.

Even in case of discrepancies, everything can be solved directly in Quant thanks to the integrated Task Management. If, for example, the size or price does not match, it is possible to report the situation and track its resolution.
