Categorisation based on Custom Properties

The fastest tool how to fill in product categories is the Product Filter which works with product attributes registered in Quant. In order to be used effectively, it is necessary to have a certain label for the products of each category.

Category Hierarchy

One of the possibilities is to use the already existing product features which you have registered in Quant. However, if it is not possible to easily categorize according to these properties, we recommend using Custom Product Properties.

This manual will describe how to create Custom Product Property for the Milk Box category and how to fill in the Milk Box product category based on this property.

The hierarchy of categories is already set in Quant but the categories are still empty. The created hierarchy can be seen in the picture.

The process consists of 3 basic steps:
  1. 1. Create Custom Product Property
  2. 2. Bulk editation of Custom Product Properties for products of one category
  3. 3. Creating a Product Filter for the category

1. Create Custom Product Property

In order to easily categorize products, it is ideal if all products in one category have the same label.

  • The label "Milk Box" shall be used for all products in the category Milk Box.
  • The label "Milk Bottle" shall be used for all products in the category Milk Bottle.

The name for the categories must be filled in Quant as a product property. In order to do this, Custom Product Property is created in Quant where the name has to be filled in. This name represents to which category the given product belongs.

How to create Custom Product Property?

  1. In section Products click on Custom Properties button
  2. Click on the New button.
  3. Fill in the name of the property in the Name row (i.e. Category).
  4. In the Type row, select Short Text.
  5. Click on OK.
  6. Click on OK again.

A new property with the name "Category" will be added to the Products tab. Here you can fill in the same label for all products in one category.

New attribute of the Category

2. Bulk editation of Custom Product Properties for products of one category

You now need to make bulk editation in the Category attribute for all products in one category (i.e. for all products which belong to the Milk Box category).

How to enter text into created Custom Product Property for multiple products at once?

  1. Mark all products which should belong to the given category.
    – You can filter and mark products by clicking on the Mark All Visible button.
    Custom properties
  2. Click on the Edit Marked button.
  3. In the new window, select the Standard option and click Next.
  4. Select the created Custom Property ("Category").

3. Creating a Product Filter for the category

When all products which belong to one category are marked the same, it is necessary to fill in the given category with these products by using the Product Filter in the Categories section.

How to create a Product Filter?

  1. In the section Categories , select the category in the hierarchy or in the table below which you want to fill in with products. In our case, it is the category Milk Box.
  2. In the Properties settings, click on the Product Filter row.
  3. Click on the Add Rule button.
  4. Click on the AddProduct Condition button.
  5. Set the filter to "Created Custom Property" = "Label for products of the selected category". For example: "Category" = "Milk Box".
  6. Click on Ok.
Filter

Products which belong to the given category according to the specified filter are visible after clicking on the Show Matching Products button. The picture shows that Quant categorized all products whose label in the Category column is "Milk Box".

Product Matching the Filter

Set the filter at the lowest possible level of the hierarchy.

In our case, a filter will be set only for the Milk Box and Milk Bottle category. The Milk category will be automatically filled with products from both subcategories, so there is no need to create a filter for it.Create a different custom property for each level of the hierarchy.

Hierarchy

Set for each level of hierarchy various custom property.

  1. level = property: Category 1 (category highlighted in green in the picture)
  2. level = property: Category 2 (category highlighted in red in the picture)
  3. level = property: Category 3 (category highlighted in blue in the picture)
Categories

If you create for each level of hierarchy a custom property, you will be able to generate hierarchy of categories automatically by clicking on the Create Hierarchy button.

  • Thanks to this tool you can generate a category hierarchy automatically.
  • The names of the categories will be generated from the values filled in the custom properties.
  • When using this tool, you have to define the custom properties, from which the categories should be generated. Add them in the order that corresponds to the level of the categories in the hierarchy (firstly you need to add the custom property that will correspond to the first level of the hierarchy - in our case Category 1).
  • Product filter will be created automatically for each category based on the custom properties and categories will be filled with products.
