Creating a Library of Fixture Types from DWG
In the following manual, you will learn what options you can use to create fixture at a store if you are using DWG files to create a store in Quant.
How can you find out how the fixture in your DWG is created?
The first step is to find out how the fixture in your DWG file is created.
If it is created in the form of blocks (and therefore not just individual lines), you can either manually pair the fixture with the fixture in Quant, or import it directly into Quant. However, if the fixture in the DWG file is created as a polygon, you can use the bulk fixture placement function according to these polygons – this procedure is described below.
The DWG file must therefore be examined in the program in which it was created or in any version of CAD.
Type of fixture
Manual creation of fixture type
You can design fixtures in Quant Explorer in the Fixture Types section by clicking the New button.
New type of fixture
You can then set the properties for the given fixture type.Fixture type creationIn addition to the standard fixture settings, you must also fill in the following:
External ID
The external ID is the name of the fixture as specified in the DWG file. The name must be entered exactly, otherwise it will not be possible to pair the fixture correctly. We recommend copying the name from the DWG file and pasting it directly into Quant.
Double-sided
Double-sided check this box if the fixture consists of two identical parts that are facing away from each other and together form a single unit.
Has edges in CAD
Has edges in CAD in addition to its dimensions, the block also has edges that define the space around it. These edges can be set either evenly on all sides or separately for each side of the block.
Dimension unit
Dimension unit set according to the units used when creating the fixture in the DWG file.
Block Orientation
This setting is used to define the default rotation of the fixture located inside the block. In some cases, the fixture (such as a gondola) inside the block may appear to be rotated by 90° or another angle. However, when the block is inserted, its rotation is set to 0°.
The block orientation setting therefore allows you to correctly determine this basic rotation and ensure that the fixture is rotated appropriately when imported into the store.
- Down - the fixture is drawn facing downwards, i.e. its front side faces downwards.
- Up - the fixture is drawn facing upwards, i.e. its front side faces upwards.
- Right - the fixture is drawn to the right, i.e., its front side faces right.
- Left - the fixture is drawn to the left, i.e., its front side faces left.
Block rotation
Then proceed with the standard procedure for creating fixtures in the Fixture Type Editor.
You can find instructions on how to set up new fixtures in the manual Fixture Types.
Fixture prepared in this way will be automatically paired with fixture from your DWG file during the import of the DWG file at the store.
For more information about importing DWG files to Store, see the manual Importing DWG in Store Editor.
Importing fixture type
- In Quant Explorer, go to the Fixture Types section.
- Click on the Import from DWG button.
- A new dialog box will open where you can select the file. Select the DWG file from which you want to import the fixture, and confirm your selection.
Import fixture from DWG
- Then select Fixture Design from the offered options, or create your own and click Next.
For more information on how to create your own fixture design, see the Fixture Types manual.
Fixture Design
- After clicking the Next button, we move on to selecting the fixture loaded from the DWG file. In this step, we can manually mark which elements we want to import into Quant, or simply select the Mark All option and confirm with the OK button.
- The marked fixture is then imported into the Fixture Types tab.

Bulk fixture placement to polygons
This function is intended for cases where the fixtures in the DWG file are defined using polygons instead of blocks. Since polygons are not blocks, they are not automatically paired with fixtures when imported into Quant and remain as separate shapes. However, they can subsequently be converted to fixtures.
Procedure for creating a new Fixture Types:
- Insert a standard type of fixture into the floor plan.
- In the Component tab, adjust its parameters so that the dimensions correspond to the polygon that you want to convert to fixture.
- At the top of Quant, click on the Create Fixture Type icon and name the new fixture.
- The new fixture type will be saved to the library, where you can use it repeatedly.

Procedure for converting polygons to fixture:
- Select one of the polygons on the floor plan.
- In the top bar, click on Select Similar (SHIFT+A) – this function will select all polygons with the same or very similar dimensions.
- Once all the required polygons are selected, click on the Convert Polygons to Fixture function (left tab with functions).
- In the open dialog box with the fixture library, select the fixture type that you have created and that corresponds to the dimensions of the polygon.
- Confirm your selection with the OK button.
All selected polygons have been converted to fixture with this step.
