DWG Import of Technical plan
Release date: 01.10.2025
We have newly added the option to import DWG files, which can be used as a technical plan for a store. Along with the technical plan, it is now also possible to import fixtures that is recorded in the DWG file.
Procedure for importing a DWG file in Store Editor
Before uploading the file, we will create a new version in the Technical Plan layer in the standard way. We will verify that this layer is active – we can tell this by the fact that its icon is fully colored orange. In the left panel, we will select the tool for inserting DWG files – DWG Import. A dialog box will open for selecting a file from our computer.
Importing a DWG file
Select the file and wait for the import to complete. Once the import is complete, the Importing icon will disappear. Do not perform any other actions during the import, otherwise it will be interrupted.
You can then set the desired display values for the file in Quant in the right-hand panel.
Layout Name – here you select which version of the DWG file you want to display on the floor plan in Quant.
Imported DWG Units – select the units according to the units in which the DWG file was created.
Once you have set the desired values and want to place (confirm) the document, press the Enter key. The document will then be placed as a Technical Store Plan.
DWG file settings
Creating an Fixture Types library
If the fixture in your DWG document is created in the form of blocks (i.e., it is not created solely from individual lines), we can manually pair this fixture with the fixture in Quant. It is therefore necessary to determine how the fixture is defined in the DWG file.
You can design the fixture in the left panel, in the Fixture Types tab.
In addition to the standard fixture settings, you must also fill in the External ID. The External ID is the name of the fixture as it appears in the DWG file. The name must be entered exactly, otherwise it will not be possible to pair the fixture correctly. We recommend copying the name from the DWG file and pasting it directly into Quant.
Manual fixture pairing
You can find instructions on how to set up new fixtures in the manual Type of Fixtures.
In addition to manually pairing fixtures, you can also use the Import from DWG function. For more information, click here.
Arranging fixture into a separate layer in the Store Editor
We imported a DWG file that serves as the technical store layout. Along with this file, we also imported the fixture that was part of it. We now want to move this fixture to a different layer and a specific version of this layer so that everything is clearly separated and easier to manage.
The next step is therefore to move the already imported fixture from the DWG file. We will move the fixtures from the already uploaded Technical Plan layer.
- We will create a new version in the Fixture layer.
- We will activate the Technical Plan layer.
- We will select the fixtures we want to move.
- Left-click to open the menu and select the option Move to layer - select the target layer and version to which we want to move the fixture.
