Sales Data Settings in the Project Editor
Sales data is an integral part required for the correct optimization of planograms. Thanks to planograms optimized according to sales, you can increase profit from sales in your stores.
In this manual, you can find a description of where and how sales data for a project can be set.
Sale data for a project can be set in two ways:
- When creating a new project, a wizard will guide you through the setting of sales data in the window: Sales Data.
- If you did not set sales data for the project when creating a new project, you can set it in the Project Editor later using the menu Project / Sales Data Settings. You can use a keyboard shortcut CTRL+W (CMD+W).
Start Period / End Period
This item defined the period from which sales data of products should be taken.
This period should be updated regularly to be always able to work with sales data of the previous months.
The period should be defined within the range of 6 to 12 months depending on how you wish seasonal changes in sales to be considered.
Value Types
Here, the types of values that you wish to monitor in the Project Editor should be selected. This procedure defines columns displayed in product tables that will be available for the preparation of planograms.
Use Store Sales when Available
This checkbox is to be selected if you wish to have planograms optimized based on data received from specific stores.
Selected checkbox “Use Store Sales when Available”
With every planogram, you will see sales data for the store for which the respective planogram has been created.
In the figures you can see the comparison of saleability for product with ID 100002 in the Prague and Pardubice stores for the period of July 2017 – September 2017. The checkbox “Use Store Sales when Available” is selected, which means that for both planograms different store-specific values will be displayed.
Unselected checkbox “Use Store Sales when Available”
You will see the same sales data for each planogram. It will refer to the average value of the clusters selected in the Benchmark Clusters criterion. If you are interested in all stores as a whole rather than specifics of individual stores, do not select this checkbox.
In the figures, the saleability of product with ID 100002 over the period of July 2017 to September 2017 can be seen. Again, the planograms for the Prague and Pardubice stores are displayed. However, this time the value of the number of sold pieces is the same for both stores because the “Use Store Sales when Available” checkbox has not been selected, which means that for both planograms the average value of sales selected in the Benchmark Clusters will be displayed.
Benchmark Clusters
Benchmark Clusters are clusters based on which you wish a benchmark to be calculated. Then, in the project the average values of such clusters can be monitored and compared to, for example, store-specific sales. They will help you find out whether the store's results are better or worse compared to the average (provided that the checkbox “Use Store Sales when Available” has been selected).
Calculate Average Cluster
This checkbox affects the Benchmark Clusters. Here, you select whether you wish to be displayed the average value for one store or the aggregate value for all stores in the (Benchmark) columns of the product tables.
Selected check box “Calculate Average Cluster”
In columns indicated as (Benchmark), the average value for one store (one cluster) will always be displayed. In this case, the Benchmark Clusters criterion includes 6 selected clusters, which means that the total value of all sold pieces is to be divided by 6.
– Sold pieces in all benchmark stores = 49,815 pieces
– Sold pieces (Benchmark) = 49 815 / 6 = 8302,5
Unselected checkbox “Calculate Average Cluster”
In columns indicated as (Benchmark), always the accumulated value of sales for all stores (clusters) included in the Benchmark Cluster criterion will be displayed.
– Sold pieces in all stores = 49,815 pieces
Calculate Average Days / Number of Average Days
Sales data can be transferred to the average sales for a specified number of days. If this setting option will not be used, always sales for the entire period that has been set in the Start and End Periods will be displayed.
You want to find out the average sales of products for a month (30 days).
– Select the “Calculate Average Days”
– Number of Average Days = 30
Booking Types
The booking type option specifies the method by which the product was sold – whether it was sold, for example, on prescription (at pharmacies), over the counter or ordered via e-shop. If you distinguish individual booking types, then for the needs of calculations and analyses in the project, only some of them can be used. If you do not upload to Quant any data concerning booking type, select the Other option.
Even if you do not distinguish Booking Types, you must select the Other option in this criterion. If you fail to do this, no sales data will be displayed in the Project Editor (zeros will be shown at products in columns).
Ignore Follower Products
Products are sometimes set followers in Quant. This setting option is used if one product is being phased out and replaced by a new product. In this case it is advisable to use the predecessor's sales history to count the sales of the new product together with the sales of the previous one to make it easier to assess how well the new product will sell. With store-specific planograms Quant will not phase out the product from the planogram due to low sales as the product has no sales history. If you wish the sales history for predecessors or followers to be ignored, you can select the “Ignore Follower Products” checkbox. If you do not use predecessors and followers in Quant, you may ignore this checkbox completely.
ABC Analysis
In the sales data settings, criteria for the evaluation of products based on the ABC Analysis are set as well. Here, two criteria can be found:
- A Level Share = a limit for the top products in the category
- B Level Share = a limit for the second top group of products
The example described in the figures analyses products based on the ABC Analysis in terms of the number of pieces sold. In general, the ABC Analysis is available for every sales value monitored in the project. Results of the ABC Analysis can also be seen in columns designated as (ABC).
