Hierarchy in the Project Editor
The hierarchy in the Project Editor is where, after opening a project, all fixtures from the stores included in the project are automatically grouped.
When you open the Project Editor, Quant automatically analyzes floor plans of the stores included in this project and automatically creates a hierarchy.
The following project includes 30 stores, which we see in the table below. Category Drinks is located in 105 positions. This is possible due to the fact that in some stores there may be more fixtures with this category. For example, in Brighton store, there are 2 fixtures with this category. In contrast, the Norwich store has only 1 fixture with this category.
The fixtures are grouped by category in the hierarchy and each category is then subdivided into further stores according to:
- Category variant
- Number of shelves
Optionally, an additional division by:
- Width of the fixture
1. Division by category variants
You set the category variants for each fixture in the Store Editor. They are used to differentiate between fixtures for which a different planogram template will be created (they will have a different category variant) and fixtures that are to share the same template, which is only to be adapted for the store according to e.g. sales or fixture width (these fixtures will have the same category variant).
In the stores in this project, the Drinks category is present in different number of fixtures in different stores - in 8 stores there is a single-module variant (1/1 category variant), whereas in 14 stores there is a two-module variant (two fixtures - the first with 2/2 category variant, the second with 1/2 category variant).

2. Distribution by number of shelves
By default, the project is set to create different groups for fixtures with different numbers of shelves. This setting can be changed via menu Project - Properties - Different Groups for different Shelf Numbers.
In the fixture group which has the category Drinks, there are 3 subgroups of fixture: the 1st subgroup of fixture has 4 shelves (contains 1 fixture), the 2nd subgroup has 6 shelves (contains 4 fixtures) and the 3rd subgroup has 5 shelves (contains 2 fixtures).
3. Distribution by width of fixture
The individual fixture groups can optionally be subdivided into different groups according to the width of the fixture. This can only be done over one fixture group, not over the whole hierarchy.
The division by fixture width is not set by default in the Project Editor. This means that different widths of fixtures will be in the same group and therefore share the same template - for wider fixture, more products will always be placed in width in the planogram to fill the entire space.
- Right-click on the fixture group for which you want to set the fixture width division.
- Select the Fixture group properties.
- Set the values for Minimum and Maximum fixture width.
- Click on Ok.
- Update the project.
- You will see the fixture subgroups created in the hierarchy.
There are several actions that can be performed over the hierarchy in the Project Editor, which will be performed for all fixtures that falls into that store of the hierarchy. For a description of these functions, refer to the Actions Over Hierarchy in the Project Editor manual.
The icons in the Hierarchy tab show a lot of useful information, such as what life cycle state the planogram is in or the type of template. For a detailed description, see the Icons in Hierarchy manual.
Planograms that fall under the same branch of the hierarchy share the same planogram template, which means that you create one template for all these planograms, which is customized for each store falling under that branch of the hierarchy, and create a planogram based on it.
