Space Planning Proof of Concept

In this manual, you will find a detailed description of the Space Planning Proof of Concept, from data preparation through pilot deployment to the final phase of testing Quant solutions and evaluating the PoC.

1. Data Preparation and Quant Installation

Week 1 - Data Preparation

The first essential step for a successful Space Planning PoC and further deployment is data preparation.

Two approaches are possible to get started:

A. Preparing a limited amount of data for training purposes only

  • Product data including dimensions for at least 2 selected pilot categories
  • Technical plans of at least 2 stores in PDF or JPEG format
  • Shelving dimension information for at least 2 selected pilot categories
  • (Optional) Product photos
  • (Optional) Sales data
  • (Optional) Inventory data

Product Data Import

B.  Automatic Data Transfer Settings - 1 - 2 Weeks

If your IT department has the capacity to set up automatic data transfers between your ERP system / DWH and Quant at the beginning, it is possible to set up everything together with our specialists during the PoC period. This process can run in parallel with training and other parts of the PoC.

Data transfer can be done using Quant's REST API or by exchanging CSV files via FTPS server.

Week 1 - Quant Desktop Installation

Once your instance of Quant is up and running, we will send login credentials for your users to the emails you specify. The email will contain a link to set up a password and download the Quant Desktop application installer.

If you do not have permission to install applications, you will need assistance from your IT department to install Quant.

After installing and running Quant, you will be prompted to enter your username and password. Quant Desktop will then attempt to connect to our servers to synchronize with your database.

It is possible that your firewall will block the connection, and you will be informed that the connection attempt failed after entering your password. If this happens, visit our website and go to My Quant / Firewall Settings to see what port and IP address combinations Quant communicates on, and your IT department will need to adjust your firewall settings.

Firewall Setting

After the first successful login to the Quant Desktop application, everything is ready for the next part - initial training.

2. Pilot Deployment

Week 2 - 3 - Basic Training

During the first weeks of working with Quant, we offer users intensive training in the form of three two-hour online meetings in MS Teams where the key user shares his screen and our consultants guide him step-by-step through the basic activities in Quant.

  • Week 2 - Training I - The first training will take you from importing basic data, to drawing fixtures in the store, to creating your first planograms and publishing them on Quant Web.

A complete training outline and step-by-step descriptions can also be found in the Planograms Integrated with Floor Plans manuals.

After each training we recommend that you spend some time working in Quant and if you will have any questions, our team of consultants can help you through the team in MS Teams or you can ask them at the beginning of the next training.

Week 4 + 5 - Drawing Pilot Stores

During the forth and fifth week, users should be able to set up selected pilot stores in Quant, particularly with regard to fixtures in the selected pilot categories. For stores up to 200 m2, it is realistic to expect to have all fixtures set up.

Our consultants will answer your questions in MS Teams on an ongoing basis, and if necessary, you can arrange an ad hoc video call with them, during which they will guide you step-by-step via screen sharing to resolve your request.

Week 6 - Creating and Publishing the First Planograms

During the sixth week, you should be able to draw the first realistic planograms and publish then to your stores.

Week 7 - Pilot stores Quant Store Portal

During the seventh week, you should introduce the pilot stores to Quant Store Portal and guide them through the process of implementing the planograms you have created.

3. Evaluating of the PoC

Week 8 - Evaluating of the PoC

In the last week of the PoC, we recommend that you continue to draw the other store gradually and according to your chosen schedule you can start managing the distribution of categories and products within categories in all stores.

Our recommendation is to roll out the planograms to the stores by category, so that over a period of 6 to 12 months, the complete display in all stores is gradually managed with Quant planograms.

Towards the end of the PoC, it is also a good idea to take some time to evaluate the benefits of Quant and decide if you want to continue with Quant and which of the system's solutions you will purchase.
