Working with Tables

Quant has a large number of tables in which items can be easily filtered, sorted, reordered or searched. Many functions will make it easier for you to work in Quant. This manual describes what features Quant offers when working with tables.

In this manual, you will learn:

  1. How do you change the order of the columns?
  2. How can you sort items in a table according to a specific column?
  3. How can you filter in tables?
  4. How do you set up a table to see only the columns you need?
  5. How do you change the width of a column?
  6. How do you save a table configuration so you can use it again later?
  7. How do you search in tables?
  8. How can you add a table in the table to all the items that you have written in a particular file?
  9. How do you copy a value from a table?
  10. How can you export an entire spreadsheet from Quant to Excel or CSV?
  11. How do you build a contingency table?
  12. How you can display a graph for a table?

How do you change the order of the columns?

Simply drag the column behind the header by drag & drop to where you want to move it.

How can you sort items in a table according to a specific column?

Clicking in the column header (by which you want to sort the items) activates the sorting. The first click sorts numeric items from the lowest number to the highest or text from A to Z. The second click sorts from the highest value to the lowest for numeric attributes. For text attributes, it sorts from Z to A.

How can you filter in tables?

If you move cursor over a column header, a filter symbol will appear. If you click on this symbol, you will be offered values by which you can filter. The filter also allows you to search, so you can start typing the value you're looking for. This value will then appear in the filter.

We want to filter only products from the supplier Slovepo in the table with products. The procedure is described in the figure below.

How do you set up a table to see only the columns you need?

Most tables in Quant are often too detailed and may contain columns that are not relevant to you. In any table, you can hide any column and keep only those that are important to you.

There are two ways you can proceed.

  • You only need to hide one or a few columns - you can hide any column by right-clicking on its header and selecting Hide Column.
Hide column
  • You need to hide a lot of columns and leave only a few visible.
    1. Right-click in a column header.
    2. Choose Select Visible Columns.
    3. The attributes that are currently present in the table are displayed in a new window:
      • Click the Add Above or Add Below button to add additional columns.
      • If you mark an existing attribute in the window, you can remove it from the table by clicking the Remove button.
Select visible columnsIf you then need to restore the table to its original state and return all the columns and their order to which they were originally, just right-click in the table header and select Reset to Default.

How do you change the width of a column?

For example, if you want to expand a column to see more text, just expand the column in the header. It is also possible to activate the function of automatic resizing of columns according to the length of the text for one or all columns in the table.

How do you save a table configuration so you can use it again later?

If you set up a table configuration that you would like to use in the future, you can save it to the Table Settings Browser. Here you can save several configurations and switch between them as needed.

Above each table is a search box where you can type the term you want to search by. Click on the magnifying glass icon to see more advanced search options.

In addition, there are several icons above the table that you can use:

  • Mark visible - marks all visible items in the table (filtered by you).
  • Unmark All- deselects all items in the table.
Marking and unmarking
  • Advanced selection - allows you to add to the selection all items that you have listed, for example, in a table in Excel or in a text document.
Advanced Selection
  • Copy Marking - copies the marked products in the table
  • Paste marking - pastes marking of products into the table

The above-mentioned two options are used when you have several products marked in one table and you want to mark the same products in another table.

How do you copy a value from a table?

In Quant, you can copy the content of any cell in the table to the clipboard by ALT+clicking into the cell whose content you want to copy. You can then paste the copied content anywhere using Ctrl (Cmd)+V.

How can you export an entire spreadsheet from Quant to Excel or CSV?

It is possible to export any table in Quant to Excel or to CSV using buttons in the left panel. The table will always be exported as you see it (applying filters and sorting, exporting only visible columns...).

How do you build a contingency table?

You can examine and analyze the data in any table in more detail in a contingency table.

How you can display a graph to a table?

You can also view a chart for any table in Quant, which allows you to analyze different tables.
